Food Protection Specialists
Mike Holcomb is the owner and principle entomologist for Technical Directions, Inc.  TDI's expertise is in stored product entomology, integrated pest management in FDA-regulated facilities, pesticide use and safety, sanitation, and GMPs in snackfood, cereal grain, pet food, bakery, bird seed, and other grain milling industries.

While we do not apply pesticides ourselves, TDI is often asked to make pesticide recommendations, or to provide guidance on insect control options, the use and selection of insect light traps, bird and rodent control strategies, pest population trending analysis, and insect pheromone monitoring devices. We also review IPM documentation and log reports, and provide guidance and recommendations to improve food safety results and assure compliance.

Whether its a customer, regulatory agency, contract cleaner, or pest control operator, we want to be your food safety advocate!

Why Our Services Are Important

Recent trends toward globalization of the food industry are causing some food processors to neglect important basic food safety programs. Several very recent yet high profile food safety cases involving Listeria, Salmonella, E. coli, and other microbes are driving the food industry and regulatory agencies toward the international HACCP- and ISO-based Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI)..

However, the Codex Alimentarious and other traditional food safety standards state that "HACCP functions best when it is built on a foundation of closely related food safety prerequisite programs".

At TDI, we want to help you preserve the basic tenents of food safety that have made your food processing company successful while you journey toward Globalization!
